County Council Majority: Baltimore County is not racially divided - Enough. Let's create more hatred.

Eleven months ago, June 7, 2011, my County Councilman Todd Huff (District 3) , and a majority of his colleagues on the Council decided that Baltimore County residents were not racially divided - enough.

At that time, I called and wrote to Mr Huff, asking for a meeting. I am still waiting for Mr Huff-and-Puff to find the courage to look me in the eye and explain what he has against Hispanics.

For those keeping score, the Council members who want to see racial divisions and hostility increase across Baltimore County are:

Vicki Almond

Cathy Bevins
Todd Huff
David Marks
John Olszewski

It is these five bottom-feeders, who are pushing a statewide referendum on a bill - the DREAM Act - passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2011.

Mr Marks is so enthusiastic about keeping kids out of college that he used campaign contributions to fund his petitioning. I wonder if he told his supporters he intended to use their money to discourage immigrants from investing in Towson or any other parts of his district? Doubt it.

The DREAM Act would permit kids who complete high school in Maryland and are academically qualified, to attend a Maryland Community College, paying in-state tuition.

This is fair, since these kids are already Maryland residents.

But Todd Huff and his narrow minded colleagues do not think this is fair. Their thinking runs like this:

Why encourage kids to go to college, who are of a different ethnic group then me? Why not pander for the votes of the most narrow-minded among us?

This is the approach to public policy of

Vicki Almond
Cathy Bevins
Todd Huff
David Marks
John Olszewski

They want to forbid college-minded kids from attending any college in Maryland, even though they are Maryland residents.

Why? These Counsel members want to send a message to thes kids. Their message is:

GO BACK WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

YOU ARE NOT WELCOME HERE.

If these kids should be blocked from going to college, where do we draw the next line?

Should these kids not get medical care if they are sick?

Should their little sisters and brothers not be allowed to go to K-12?

Why is it good policy to tell bright Maryland residents they are not wanted here - except in low paying, menial, dead-end employment?

Why is it OK to racially divide the community like this?

Our narrow-minded Council members:

Vicki Almond
Cathy Bevins
Todd Huff
David Marks
John Olszewski

need to meet these kids.  These Council members ought to have the courage to tell the kids to their eager but now-disappointed faces, that they are not wanted in Baltimore County -  except maybe to trim lawns and wash cars.

Shame on

Vicki Almond
Cathy Bevins
Todd Huff
David Marks
John Olszewski

who use their visibility in local government to try to undermine state law.

Shame on them for believing in and wanting to enlarge the racial divide.
